The sanctuary. Since ancient times, people have worshiped and prayed in awe, using the places where they feel energy beyond human knowledge with the trees and rocks there as sacred symbols. Over time, Shinto shrines were built in these places as the testimony of reverence and have become shrines and temples at the present time in Japan.

According to the Nihon Shoki (The Chronicles of Japan),a character named, Ryomen Sukuna in the anime series of Jujutsu-Kaisen, is described as a monster with two heads and four hands. However, according to the book, it is said that he was the hero who defeated monsters, opened the land, and laid the foundation of Hida. Is it justice or evil? No one knows for sure, but the atmosphere of Hida makes us wonder if there are the fingers of Ryomen-Sukuna still sleeping somewhere in this place.

In the beautiful triangular mountains that look like a pyramid, there is the Sunstone on the slope surrounded by straight trees. This honorific worship object, also the model of the Kimetsu no yaiba (Demon Slayer), is enshrined at Nichirin jinja Shrine in Hida. Solemnity and serenity. The flow of time seems to have stopped in this place.

Minashi jinja Shrine has been regarded as the nominative shrine of Hida area since ancient times. Ikibina matsuri festival (Live Doll Festival), also featured in the popular Hida Takayama-themed TV animation “Hyo-ka” is held every spring in Hida.

This festival represents the deep appreciation to God for the joy of celebrating the budding season after a long and harsh winter. Many people, not only locals but also from afar, visit this shrine for Ikibina festival or during other seasons throughout the year.

Ankokuji Kyozo is designated as a national treasure of Japan. It has the Japanese oldest Kyozo (sutrarepository) with the 2208-volume scriptures that rotate around a pillar that runs through the building. Of course, its appearance is wonderful, but when you look closely, there are letters written with a brush, which were done by the worshipers from afar. The oldest written words are from about 600 years ago during the Muromachiperiod.

Sanctuary is a special place where people worship and make us want to visit once in our lifetime.
There are many ancient and modern sanctuaries in this city.
